How do we support reforestation?

We will collect over 1,000 pinecones of select species of serotinous pinecones, meaning these pinecones benefit from the heat of forest wildfires to melt their wax, dry them out, and release their seeds. We will use the heat of the fire of the temple to mimic a forest fire, and it will open the pinecones we place in custom-built seed-harvesting containers. We will harvest enough seeds to grow over 20,000 trees. We will partner with various federal, state, private, public, and nonprofit groups to find/build a safe place for the seeds to be sown, germinate, and be nurtured until they're ready to transplant to a forest. Once planted in protected land, these trees will sequester over 500,000 tons of carbon in their lifetime. More than offsetting the amount of carbon emitted by Burning Man in one year/event.
